Kaapzicht Rooiland Pinotage 2021

The red gravel soil in our hallmark Pinotage blocks gives these vineyards their name — Rooiland (red land). Not only is Pinotage South Africa’s very own grape, it was first planted down the road from Kaapzicht. As no other wine better shows where we came from or who we are, we craft the wine according to its classic style: intense, plush, and opulent.

Back Story & Wine Information

Kaapzicht is a fourth-generation family-owned wine estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, founded in 1946 by Major David Steytler . It began as a general farm with mixed livestock and crops but has since evolved into a wine-focused business that the Steytler family continues to run. The name “Kaapzicht” means “Cape view” and refers to the estate’s scenic view of Cape Town and Table Mountain.

Pairing
Barbecued meats: Barbecued ostrich steaks or springbok fillet from the braai are excellent matches. Game: It pairs well with venison and game birds. Red meat: Lamb and other red meats are good pairings, with leaner cuts recommended for lighter wines. Spicy dishes: This wine also complements spicy foods. Vegetables: Enjoy with a side of roasted or grilled vegetables. Other options: Consider pork dishes or beef.
