Back Story & Wine Information

Hoopenburg stands apart as the only South African wine estate to have cultivated 100% of its grapes from low-yielding bush vines. Today, we uphold this legacy of excellence, with techniques that continue to yield grapes of the finest quality.

Pairing
Red Meats: Excellent with various red meats, including steak, lamb chops, roast beef, and venison/game. The protein and fat in the meat help soften the wine's tannins, creating a balanced mouthfeel. Slow-Cooked Dishes: It complements rich casseroles, beef stews, and braised lamb shanks, especially those cooked with herbs like rosemary. Pasta & Sauces: Hearty tomato-based pasta dishes, such as spaghetti bolognese or lasagna, work well. Grilled & Roasted Foods: The wine's structure pairs beautifully with grilled or barbecued meats and grilled vegetables like eggplant and bell peppers. Incorporating fresh herbs into the grilling process can enhance the pairing. Cheeses: Aged and strong cheeses such as aged cheddar, gouda, and parmesan are good accompaniments.
