Back Story & Wine Information
The “Bosman Merlot story” is the story of an eight-generation family of South African winemakers whose history is intertwined with their heritage and a commitment to social responsibility
. The Bosman family has been growing vines in Wellington since 1810, and while they focused on their vineyard nursery for many years, the 8th generation brought winemaking back to the forefront in 2007. The family’s motto, “faith, hope, and love,” is reflected in their business practices, which include a significant land reform transaction and Fairtrade certification, a portion of which benefits their Adama foundation for community projects.
Pairing
Grilled and Roasted Meats: The wine's fruit-forward profile and structure perfectly balance the smoky char of grilled lamb or beef.
Hearty Stews and Casseroles: The fuller body of an oak-aged Merlot works well with rich, thick dishes such as beef stew or osso bucco.
Pasta and Tomato-Based Dishes: The wine's moderate acidity harmonizes well with the acidity in tomato sauces, making it an ideal match for spaghetti with meat sauce, lasagna, or a simple pasta al pomodoro.
Poultry: Merlot can stand up to flavorful poultry dishes, including roast chicken, turkey with cranberry sauce, or chicken with mushrooms.
Mushrooms: Earthy flavors in mushrooms (e.g., wild mushroom risotto or grilled Portobello mushrooms brushed with balsamic glaze) are a classic pairing for the notes often found in Merlot.
Cheeses: It pairs well with a range of semi-hard and hard cheeses, such as gruyère, aged cheddar, or parmesan.
