Established in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the Cape Colony, Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine-producing farm. Located in a fertile valley, it became a world-renowned producer of Constantia dessert wine, famously enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and European royalty. Today, it operates as a historical, government-owned heritage site.
