Back Story & Wine Information

Landskroon is situated along the south-western slopes of Paarl Mountain. The farm was originally granted in 1692 by Governor Simon van der Stel to Jan Holsmit, a Swede, who immigrated to South Africa from a little town, Landskrona, near Stockholm. In 1874 Paul de Villiers, great great grandfather of the present owners, bought a portion of the original Landskroon. The expansion of the farm continued and today the vineyards comprise almost 200 ha. The Estate is managed as a private family operation, owned by the Trusts of Paul and Hugo de Villiers. Four members of the family are involved on a full-time basis and cellar master, Paul de Villiers, is a member of the ninth generation carrying on the proud family tradition in winemaking. Paul’s wines have won numerous awards including Diners Club Wine Maker of the year award for 2000.More than 90% of the vineyards at Landskroon consist of the red wine cultivars. The rest are port & white wine cultivars. All wines are matured and bottled at Landskroon.
